A bit of a leap, perhaps ...

So this is "Leap Year Day," so to speak -- February 29th, which only comes once every four years. So every four years, winter is one day longer. Why can't we have a June 31st instead, so that every four years, it's summer that's extended by a day? If we have an extra twenty-four hours to spend (or waste, if you prefer), why not do it in nicer weather? An additional day to stroll through grass or along a beach rather than slide through snow and freezing rain ...
